HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance today announced the winners of its annual mine safety and reclamation awards. Recognition is given for the completion of outstanding reclamation at coal mine sites and superior employee safety records throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Robindale Energy Services, Inc. was awarded the Best Overall Reclamation for the transformation of a 6.2 acre site located in Derry Township, Westmoreland County. The company removed three abandoned barren refuse piles and reclaimed the area utilizing nearby and on-site soil to blend in with the surrounding topography and establish positive drainage. As lush vegetative cover was established, sediment runoff entering Union Run was significantly reduced. In addition, a tree canopy remained within the center of the project area to preserve a bank of historical coke ovens.

In addition to reclamation, the Keystone Mine Safety Awards are presented by PCA to recognize outstanding safety records at mine sites, with awards for both Manufacturer and Service Providers and Producers. Awards are based on Mine Safety Health Administration safety data and are determined by non-fatal loss (NFDL) rates. Several local companies were recognized for their focus on employee safety.
