HARRISBURG, PA – September 15, 2026
Pennsylvania Coal Alliance Executive Director, Rachel Gleason, issued the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency’s final repeal of Power Plant Regulations:
“For more than a decade, policies under the Obama and Biden administrations were advanced with the intent to prematurely shutter coal plants and other sources of American energy, drive up rates, and put our electric grids at risk.
The Trump Administration’s repeal of the carbon standards rule, which never took effect as it was held in abeyance by the Court, rightfully recognizes the collective intent by acknowledging lack of authority, and the technology required by the rule has not been adequately demonstrated.
Repealing the 2024 rule removes a $310 billion federal threat and gives operators a chance to keep running the units that produce the necessary power on a cold January night, ensures reliable and affordable electricity for American families and businesses, and strengthens our energy security.”
